So, I had only planned to do my 72 hour fast once a month, but after a little bit of thought. I decided to add a 24-36 hour fast in for the 3 weeks that I am not doing the 72 hour fast. My thought process behind this was that it would make the 72 hour fast a little easier each month, because I'm fasting regularly then. Maybe this fasting hack will work for you also.
I made one attempt on Monday, but I was doing some manual labor that day so I only made it to about 4 pm. Then decided because of the body stress I just wanted to eat!! However, it was still around a 20 hour fast. Not a total loss. :-) I will try again next week, I told myself. Rather than entering into a state of resistance and the resulting stress I just became easy about things. Beating myself up over this failed attempt would not be, being nice to me!! I'm sure that everyone can relate to that. So, be nice to yourself. You deserve it!!
Well, I didn't wait until next week. I thought through my schedule for the week and picked what I thought would be the best day for me to try again. Why wait until next week, right?
When thinking through your schedule you want to pick days that you won't have the temptation to eat. As an example, if there's a particular day of the week that you are involved in some sort of social activity then that's probably going to make sticking to your fast a little more difficult. You also, don't want to pick a day that you will be sitting around thinking about eating all day ending up breaking your fast out of boredom.
Attempt 2: This time I am happy to report that I did not cheat with the coffee. YAY ME!!! I started my day with unsweetened green tea and sipped on tea and water again throughout the day.
This was quite an emotionally stressful day, because of things going on in my life. But I was determined to make this a 24 hr fast, especially since I had started my day off with no coffee. Try to be stronger than your environment and don't let outside stress defeat you. Find a success early in the day, like I did with the coffee. In this way you will be your own cheerleader!
Another tip is to do a little planning to make sure you have your unsweetened green tea already prepared. If you have others in your home that drink coffee, only make half a pot. This little hack helped me avoid the temptation, because the coffee I made was designated for my partner.
I was also blessed with a migraine on this day, but I didn't let that stop me. I was a little hungry and tired with my fasting on Wednesday, but I went with it. I made it until 5 pm which was around a 23 hr fast!! Ultimately I am working towards a 36 hour fast. So, I will not be eating for a full day. It looks like this: last meal at
6 pm on Monday and next meal around 8 am give or take on Tuesday morning. That meal will likely be 2 eggs and 1 slice of Ezekiel bread. Both of these are packed with protein!!
If you will celebrate what you may view as little successes (they are not little) you will be encouraged to keep working towards your goal.
Weight-loss report: I maintained my previous weight loss through the week and have lost another 2 lbs!!! Plus I feel full of energy and I have a clarity that is opening up my mind to more creativity. One more bonus is the boost in confidence that comes from accomplishing something that most people will never even attempt!!
